The biological meaning of an adult animal or human is one that has completely developed. The term "adult" is often used in the context of humans to mean the legal and social aspects. In contrast to a person who is that isn't considered an adult, or "minor" legally adult is a person who has reached the age of majority which makes them independent as well as responsible and competent. The word "major" is a term used to describe the person. There is a general belief that the minimum age that a person legally matures is 18. However, this can differ based on the legal rights and country and also on the psychological state.

When it comes to the life span of a human being Adulthood refers to the point when a person has achieved full intellectual and physical maturation. Adulthood, as it is commonly understood, starts around the age of either 20 or 21. Middle age, commencing at about 40 years, is followed by old age at about 60 years old. In adulthood there are three distinct phases The first is early adulthood (18-30 years) and Middle Adulthood (30-60 years) and late adulthood (60%-60 60%). When we enter an early age (20 to the early 40s) the physical development is completed, though our height and weight might increase slightly. As we grow older, we are at the highest level of physical ability.
